Who We Are
David Wood
Director
After moving to the Coachella Valley from the LA area in 2012, David begun mountain biking adventures when a co-worker invited him out to the Art Smith trail. Ever since then, he was hooked and rides his bike several days a week. His love of the sport grew and his curiosity for exploring the local mountains gained him the title 'Godfather Of CVMTB' by his fellow riders. When not riding, David owns a local construction company remodeling and building custom homes. His love for mountain biking also compelled him to open the local bike shop Palm Desert Bike n Brews in 2021.
Sasha Mondo
Treasurer
Sasha grew up in Hawaii where she spent most of her time helping her dad with his nursery and enjoying the outdoors. She eventually ended up in Texas with her mom where she finished out her high school years. In 2006, she moved to California with her daughter and begun helping her dad with his landscape and pool company. After her dad passed away, she started her own landscape design firm in 2016 and has been running her own business ever since. About a year and a half ago, she was introduced to mountain biking and has found a revived passion in spending time outdoors again. She enjoys the business aspect of her company and is looking forward in contributing to CVMBA.

Neil Johnson
Board Member
Neil spent the first 22 years of his life living in a small town in Iowa. He moved to the desert temporarily with the goal of moving closer to the beach. The beauty and adventure of the desert lifestyle quickly persuaded him to settle down in Palm Desert, CA with his wife Sarah. He has been teaching for Palm Springs Unified since 1998. Hiking, biking, and exploring the desert vastness keeps him motivated to spend more time outdoors. Neil has dedicated his life teaching children the benefits of living an active lifestyle. He organizes track meets, coaches street hockey and pickleball along with dozens of other sports. Neil's most recent project was fundraising with All Kids Bikes to purchase 33 Strider Bikes and teach every kindergartener at his school how to ride. The bike program is growing each day and students of all ages now enjoy biking more than ever. Neil strives to build a trail network to further his students' passion for riding and respect of nature.
